Taken from, 'A Series of Anatomical Plates' Edited by Jones Quaid, M.D. and Erasmus Wilson (Consulting Surgeon to the St Pancras Infirmary, and Lecturer on Anatomy and Physiology in the Middlesex University Hospital Medical School). Printed for Taylor & Walton, Upper Gower Street, 1842.
The book of early Victorian anatomical plates from which this lithograph is taken is now extremely rare. The lithographs have extraordinary detail and clarity. These particular plates are of interest because the paper stock is very sound (though in some cases they are foxed or spotted) and the images are bright, sharp and very clear. Please note, these are originals and not modern reproductions.
The plates are drawn by different artists, but each one is taken from 'life', drawn from the dissection table.
