They are charming books in their own right but have the additional merit of 8 very attractive colour plates and a narrative form of art history scholarship that was very much of its time (full of opinion, anecdote and rivetting unsubstantiated claim). Both the bold, open typeface and the attractive front cover make them aesthetically appealing and a collector's item.

Offsetting and yellowing to end papers otherwise text and plates are in Fine condition. Dusty page edges. This edition with illustrated board covers. Bumped corners. Chip to head and tail of spine. Spotting to end papers. This copy in lovely condition for its age.
